Travel Information for Namibia

If you are travelling to Namibia to volunteer or take part in an activity with Samzi, it is important to understand certain aspects of safety, travel documents, health and insurance before your trip.

The information below is intended as general guidance. Entry requirements and health recommendations may change, so we always recommend checking official advice before travelling.

Namibia is generally a destination that can be visited without major difficulties, although it is important to take standard precautions during your stay. The Spanish Ministry of Foreign Affairs does not currently impose general restrictions on travel to the country.

We recommend avoiding travelling alone, especially at night, keeping valuables out of sight and following the guidance of those responsible for your stay at all times.

During activities organised by Samzi, volunteers will be accompanied and supported by our team.

Spanish citizens need a visa to enter Namibia for short stays. The visa can be applied for online before travelling, and there is also the option of obtaining one on arrival.

You must also travel with a passport that meets the validity requirements set by the Namibian authorities.

As requirements may change, we recommend checking the necessary documentation with official sources before each trip.

Before travelling, we recommend visiting an International Vaccination Centre well in advance to receive personalised advice based on the areas you plan to visit, the length of your stay and your individual circumstances.

Recommended vaccinations for Namibia include diphtheria, tetanus and polio, alongside keeping your routine vaccinations up to date. Additional vaccinations may be recommended depending on the nature of your trip.

There is a risk of malaria, particularly in the north of the country and during the rainy season. A healthcare professional should advise you before travelling on whether antimalarial medication is appropriate and which type to take.

During your stay, we recommend taking basic preventive measures: maintaining good hand and food hygiene, protecting yourself against mosquito bites, wearing suitable footwear and using sunscreen.

You need appropriate international medical insurance for your stay in Namibia. To obtain a visa, insurance covering medical expenses, including medical repatriation, is required.

We recommend comprehensive coverage that includes medical treatment, hospitalisation, emergencies and medical evacuation or transport. Outside Windhoek, access to certain medical facilities is more limited.

In addition to medical insurance, we recommend travel insurance that covers possible disruptions such as cancellations, delays, lost luggage and other unforeseen travel-related events.

Each participant is responsible for checking the terms and coverage of their policy before travelling.

Participation in activities and trips organised in connection with Samzi is intended for people aged 18 and over.

Each participant is responsible for their own actions and for complying with entry requirements, health and safety recommendations, and instructions provided by the authorities and those responsible for the activity.

The guidance and support provided by Samzi during the stay do not replace each participant’s individual responsibility.

Entry requirements, health regulations and travel recommendations may change. Before travelling, we recommend consulting the latest information from the Spanish Ministry of Foreign Affairs and visiting an International Vaccination Centre.
