Enghandja is a very poor rural community where families lack access to basic necessities and there is no school, leaving many children without access to education.
This is our most important project, and we need all the help we can get: we must build a proper school building to house a classroom in Enghandja. Classes currently take place in a makeshift, wall-less structure used as a community church. With no walls and a sandy floor, we face daily challenges from wind and dust, as well as constant distractions from dogs and goats wandering among the benches. Children also suffer from colds, dry airways and eye irritation. There is nowhere to hang blackboards or other teaching materials. Every day, the children and teachers must also move the tables and chairs into a storeroom to prevent theft. The regional Baptist diocese has already granted us the land, and we are preparing the ground and building a protective fence. However, the classroom itself must meet the standards, requirements and permit conditions needed to operate as a school. This will undoubtedly be a major step towards securing the future of the school we founded, which has now been running for three years.
The school’s financial needs fall into three main areas: the teacher’s salary, daily meals for the children, and school supplies and transport.
Although building the classroom is our main priority and work is due to begin soon, the school still needs regular support amounting to €350 per month. To construct the school building, we need approximately €10,000 more!
