Our support provides the funding needed to keep the school running, including staff salaries, school supplies and medical supplies. In addition to regular expenses, other costs arise as needs change, such as taking a child to the doctor or repairing damage caused by storms. We are in contact with the local team almost every day, allowing us to decide together how best to use the available funds.
Recent developments include the construction of two sturdier huts to serve as dormitories and the preparation of accommodation for volunteers. For now, volunteers stay in tents. Thanks to a special donation, a solar panel system has been installed to provide electricity this year. There is no mains electricity or running water at the site, and the system is not yet sufficient to meet all their needs.
The school currently needs the following:
- Food: Meals mainly consist of rice, pasta, flour, sugar and cooking oil. There are not enough funds to buy healthier food regularly.
- School supplies: Chalkboards and chalk, tables and chairs, paper and arts and crafts materials are needed.
- Medical supplies to meet basic healthcare needs (the hospital is 1.5 hours away). The school also needs supplies for the sleeping and cooking areas, including firewood, blankets and mattresses, as well as diesel fuel to collect water, buy food and take children to hospital in a medical emergency.
Overall, the school’s financial needs amount to around €450, excluding the additional funds required for ongoing construction, materials and labour.
